Climate change is seriously affecting young people’s lives, homes, and health, even if they don’t always express it openly. Their concerns about climate change inevitably seep into their school experiences. This raises the question: What strategies can educators employ to assist young individuals in navigating these challenging emotions?

Enter “The Educator’s Guide to Climate Emotions.” This resource, crafted by a team of educators, researchers, and mental health professionals, in collaboration with youth climate advocates and experts in climate psychology, provides a range of methodologies for addressing climate-related emotions within educational spaces.

This feels like a much-needed resource. In my work with inservice and preservice teachers the topic of students’ emotions surrounding climate science comes up often. For some educators the fear of confronting these emotions might lead to not wanting to tackle climate science in science class.

This guide provides a well-organized, concise, and resource-packed set of tools to support students (and ourselves) as we dig into climate science and most importantly- climate solutions.

Below you will see the table of contents so you can get the gist of what the guide provides. There is also a rich set of appendices with connections to other resources.

NOTE: The book All the Feelings Under The Sun is another great resource on this topic.
