It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned Science News for Kids on this site so I think it’s time for a reminder of this excellent resource for kid-friendly informational text. With the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in English/Language Arts there is a renewed focus on both informational text and text complexity.. Science News for Kids can provide elementary teachers with a source for both. The site takes current science news stories and presents them in an age- appropriate way. The text can be printed off so that students can “leave the tracks of their thinking” by writing on the text, something we don’t usually let them do in a book.
