OSPI is currently seeking feedback on all of their learning standards revisions. You can click HERE if you are interested in all content areas.

For this post I’m focused on our science standards and how they are being modified.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Washington Science Learning Standards revisions are still 3 Dimensional performance expectations from the Next Generation Science Standards. Here are some of the key changes:

  • You will notice tags that clarify climate, engineering, and environmental and sustainability connections in the standards.
  • You will also notice the presence of priority standards in science in each DCI in each grade band. The presence of these priority standards and which standards were elevated in importance feels like a potential area for providing feedback.

Below are some resources and links so that you can provide a thoughtful review and give feedback on our Washington State Science Learning Standards revisions.

  • A slideshow from OSPI in mid- August that describes the mission, provides an overview of work done, and next steps. I recommend at least skimming this before looking at the revised standards…but I’m not the boss of you.
  • Website with ALL learning standards revisions for public comment
    • The 3rd bullet under Draft Learning Standards Documents will show you science standards in multiple languages
  • Click HERE to quickly access Public Draft WA Learning Standards for Science in English
  • Provide comments on the OPSI Public Comment survey HERE.
    • Feedback is due by September 13th
