The U.S. Department of Education is recently hosted a YOU Belong in STEM webinar where they dove into the experiences of students and experts, giving educators, parents, and policymakers practical tips for helping women and girls of color succeed in STEM fields. The session showcased the STEM journeys of three young women of color, offering insights on how to address their needs and support their paths in STEM careers. The webinar video is embedded below.
By the way- the PBS Kids show Lyla in the Loop is mentioned in the video. This is a pretty great show and I’ve embedded a full episode below if you’re interested in checking it out. Enjoy.
Here is an overview of the show Lyla in the Loop:
“Lyla in the Loop” is a new animated series for kids aged 4-8, featuring Lyla, a spirited 7-year-old who lives in a big city with her family, her blue sidekick Stu, and a variety of quirky characters. The show highlights Lyla’s adventures as she tackles everyday problems through creative and strategic thinking, from building carnival games to helping with recycling and making puppet shows. Alongside her family and friend Everett, Lyla explores foundational computational thinking concepts, blending comedy and community support while showcasing flexible problem-solving and creative expression.
