The Texas Collaborative for Science Innovation comprises a coalition of 13 school districts in Texas, working together to enhance science education within their communities. Through collaborative efforts, they aim to elevate the quality of science teaching and learning. By collectively envisioning an improved science education landscape in line with the state’s new science standards, these districts have adopted a tool known as the Transforming Science Education Continuum. While your state might be using the NGSS or other Framework-aligned science standards- this tool still provides a powerful way to represent and monitor implementation work. This tool empowers educational leaders to deliberate on both long-term and short-term objectives across essential aspects such as professional learning. By evaluating the current state of their science programs, they can strategically plan and implement necessary actions to bring their envisioned future of science education to fruition.

The tool provides a continuum for each of six criteria:

  • Shared Leadership
  • High Quality Professional Learning
  • High Quality Instructional Materials
  • High Quality Assessments
  • Adequate and Sustained Support for Science
  • Effective Science Instruction Implementation and Monitoring
