Phylo: the Trading Card Game

Phylo The Trading Card Game looks like a very cool biology game for students learning about biodiversity. Like Pokemon or Magic: The Gathering- the game is much more than just card collecting. The site is currently in the Beta stage but there is already a significant library of cards and the intent is to have a template where students/classrooms can create their own cards to upload.

On the site you will find:

  • gameplay rules
  • several pre-made cards
  • information about how to get involved in field testing the cards

Phylo seems like a perfect way to “hook” some kids on science using a non-traditional strategy. There is no reason why we can’t tap into students’ natural love of gaming to teach them some science.
