Integrating Science & Literacy

At the 2010 Washington Science Teachers Association Conference I presented a session on Integrating Science & Literacy at the elementary level. I want to share some of the resources from the session.

I created a wiki for science and literacy integration with links, books, and more. Please visit and  add any effective resources that seem appropriate for K-5 science and literacy integration.

The focus of the session was a planning tool I created to assist elementary teachers as they use authentic fiction and non-fiction texts in their classrooms. The 1 page form lists reading comprehension skills on the top, possible science connections in the middle, and follow up activities on the bottom.

Download the integration form HERE. Please feel free to modify the form to match your instructional materials, state standards, etc. I would just ask that you post a copy of your new and improved version on the wiki for others to share.

Welcome to Science for All. This is a site where I share some of my favorite science and STEM education resources. I’ll also write the occasional personal post or opinion about education in general. I hope you enjoy your time here and that you always leave with something helpful.
