Project FIRST: Eye on the Sky

Screen shot 2009-10-10 at 8.03.52 PMProject FIRST: Eye on the Sky contains integrated science/literacy teaching materials for elementary learners. The materials are inquiry-based and hands-on science activities developed and tested by UC Berkeley educators and scientists.

Two Earth/Space units have been developed- Our Star the Sun and Changing Weather. Our Star the Sun contains 15 lessons with well developed lesson plans and pdfs of worksheets and assessments.

I am very impressed that the site contains samples of student work for many lessons.Screen shot 2009-10-10 at 8.18.32 PM

See a video of students experiencing the Eye on the Sky materials HERE.

Applications for Science Teachers: These look like fabulous materials and I would love to hear from some teachers who have used these lessons with students. In Washington State, our new science standards recommend Earth/Space science in every elementary grade band. These materials may help districts and schools fill some holes in their curriculum.
